Pretty much a beginner-drawer here wondering when you guys started drawing and/or noticing you had at tallent.

>TL;DR when did you start to draw exessively?

>> No.1490677

Age 4

All the other kids worshipped me so I kept on with it.

>> No.1490681

Ive been drawing since I was like 5 or 6, wasnt until about 4 months ago when people started liking the things I was drawing. I still think the things I draw are utter shit though.

Im 20 now

I never had talent for it I just wanted it bad enough to put serious effort. I suffered through pretty much every bad habit an artist could have and still getting over some of them today. It's only been a little over a year but I think I've made okay progress. Started at 23, never really drew at all before then.

Progress has been astounding, but its incredibly hard to put 8 hrs a day into drawing and studying methods.
Hopefully with a tablet I get next week everything will become more diverse and fun.
( not saying that it isnt fun right now, but 8hrs is daunting)
Posting a tree I made 2 weeks ago( I think)

>Born into family where everyone drew - looked up to my uncle and mom's art
>Drew flipbooks and stuff obsessively since kids didn't like me
>Learned to "draw what you see, not what you think you see" around 9.
>Realized that my uncle and mom weren't all that good at art either, they could just copy like I could.
>Praised by classmates for "talent" at 14 - b-but I've just been doing the same shit since 6, just more cleaned up.
>Took art seriously (started studying Vilppu) like, 4 months ago.

Progress here >>1490609

>Pic related for horrendous drawing when I was 11. I was so damn proud of it back then. 6 months after I knew I was shit at art but instead of fixing it I just went onto photography...

Well, photography's a whole other story.

Talent is from kids who never got discouraged by their symbols when they became teenagers. The people with "talent" are just the people who didn't have the gap in confidence that most experience.

>> No.1491084

I don't believe in 'talent' but I went from somewhat interested to very interested when I was about 17 or 18. I'm 22 now.
I didn't know what books to start with so I basically just persevered through thousands of shitty drawings until I eventually became able to deal with forms and turning things around in space.
Later I started coming on here and found out which books were worthwhile

From my point of view talent is just the rate of learning. Some people can absorb more knowledge than others in the same period of time. People told me I'm talented at drawing, what an utter bullshit that was if by talent they meant innate drawing skills

Pic related, that's my 'talented' stuff from few years back. Been scribbling stuff my whole life but it has never been good

Age 3 or 4...basically ever since I could pick up a crayon or a pencil. My earliest studying was copying images out of nintendo power magazine, the first issue up to probably issue 15 or so, so that tells you how long ago that was and how early on that was for me. I was born in 85, the first issue came out in 88.

I drew shit around the house too like the dog and my cat, the backyard, etc. I would have drawn out of other magazines and references but I didn't really have any since I lived in a pretty secluded suburb and had no access to a store, just a nintendo power subscription.

When my dumbass of a father lost his job and was too stupid to actually get a retirement fund. Leaving me with the conclusion that working min wage wouldn't be enough to keep them in a place and STILL move the hell out get a life of my own. So now I'm busting my ass on the only one skill i've worked on in my life trying to produce better money before the dumbass ends up homeless cause he hasn't gotten hired yet and unemployment doesn't last forever.

I dunno, ever since I was a kid, I had a fascination with drawing and trying to perfect it. I copied Disney movies, and illustrations of birds, and as elementary school went by (1-3rd grade) l, I tried copying yu-gi-oh cards and I coped them perfectly, I guess. And then everyone knew me as one of those kids who drew. The cousins I lived with were experts at copying too.

Move on to America in 5-6th grade, in saw my Korean friend be a neat drawer of the anime. I youtube how to anime, and this trend moved on to middle school. I won an award from my middle school as "one of the best artists"... It was only the start of Highschool did I noticed about all this classicism and concept art so lol. I was known for having neat drawings about the body because I moved my subject matter to it.
Hopefully ill be known for awesome art in the future :3
