"Learn anatomy" is very vague...when have you truly learnt it? Is it when you can name all the muscles and bones? When you know all their insertions/origins? When you understand each one's action, and how to show it? When you can look at a photo and draw all the muscles on top? When you can draw a figure without reference?

Anatomy on a basic level can be learned in a year, just buy maybe two or three anatomy books, copy out every drawing, and read through them. You'll have a basic knowledge of it, and from there can continue to fine tune your knowledge for the rest of your life.

you will never finish learning, there's no limit to what you can do.

but if you start today you can do great things before the end of this summer

Learning anatomy over the course of summer is definitely possible, you just have to have the determination.


On a side note, I'm going to college over the summer for character animation. Any tips for things I should study over the summer to help prepare myself? Preferably from actual animation students/graduates, though anyone's input will be great.

For me, anatomy is something I just got used to. Keep in mind that it's not an exact science. Bodies are weird.

Anyone could've been an art god if they spent 6 hours a day practising for a couple of years. That's not taking into account the burnout you'll probably have after a week.

I'm struggling to keep motivated too. I usually just go through some art blogs to get inspired and motivate myself to keep working.

Being a computer programmer I feel like I'm at the complete opposite end but if I can overcome it I'll essentially be opening up a whole new realm into my life.

I want to create my own futuristic space game with an emotional story. I've got everything down (I think) except the music and art. It's kinda annoying since to get emotional you need at least one of the two to be at a high standard and the other above decent.

Hence I look at http://sparth.tumblr.com/ frequently to get my brain working.

So ask yourself what exactly is driving you to improve your art and find things related to keep you motivated. If you have no driving force, find one.
