Hey /ic/ animu fellows, why don't you follow the new trend of animu? It will be the epitome of anime in the next decades.

Because they managed to get into the uncanny valley both in style and in animation.

That's quite a feat, actually.

Isn't this what animu hater always want? A good catoon plot with good background and realistic character?

>> No.1437161

Because this version of rotoscoped animation is horrible.

Also you are a bad troll.

>> No.1437179

I like it.

It isn't really uncanny valley for me. Does that vary person to person?

Anyway, it's interesting to see some animu that actually looks like asian characters.

>> No.1437185

>>1437102
Honestly, i think it is far from the uncanny valley.

First, animation wise it looks natural... jaggy... but natural, if it was smoother I think it would be fine... or maybe not, because maybe it wouldn't really fit it very well and would just look weird.

Secondly, in art, there is really nothing that strikes as being familiar on me, so there is no uncannyness...

but yeah.. pretty shitty IMO.

so is gollum in the lord of the rings,
doesn't mean he wouldn't fall into the uncanny valley if they tried to make him look anymore human-like. do you seriously not understand what the uncanny valley is?

Why would they make it into an animation when they used actual people to make it anyway?

>> No.1437232

Probably laziness. Wanting to make something animated but not wanting to go through all the damn effort.
Sometimes it's for a certain stylistic effect, or because they don't have the technology/experience required to do the scenes they want to do. Think old lord of the rings animated movie.

>> No.1437238

>>1437230
/a/ discussed about it, probably the cost for acting with green background + rotostope is lower than action with real background. Also 90% Japanese live action is a shit.

I get that weebs are upset that it didn't look like the manga it's apparently based off of, but I honestly like it for what it is. It's interesting to watch and the "uncanny"ness of the characters really adds to how twisted it's supposed to be.

Matters little. Is the end product that matters.

I guess you always get pissed of when new software makes the job of 3D artists easier on movies?

Rotoscopy as a technique has been around for years. It's a cheap alternative to actual animation. No need to get toxic, especially if you agree with me, since your last comment was completely irrelevant.

I think Akira is about as realistic anime can get for me before it starts being uninteresting to look at. Although akira is brilliant.
I think the only time I've seen rotoscopy that wasn't uncomfortably shitty looking, was the fairy in pinocchio. and that was 70 years ago

>In 2013, the anime The Flowers of Evil was criticized by viewers for using rotoscoping to achieve a look that differed greatly from it's manga source material. The main problem existed in cutting corners in animating facial features, reusing several backgrounds, and taking liberties in realism. Despite this, critics lauded the anime, including the website Anime News Network, which awarded it a perfect score for initial reactions.

kind of sounds like this anime is just done lazily. Things like A Scanner Darkly took absolutely ages

have only watched an episode or something but I think it looks cool. they're not attractive but I like how they play around with symbols and visual conventions, it's more than I can say for that other stuff you're watching

>new trend of animu?

not everything has to be a trend, not everyone has to do the same thing. I know it's hard to grasp for someone who is used to anime but art isn't simon says

Either half of us are missing vital social-processing areas of our brains or the guys throwing "uncanny" around are just trying to show off the new word they learned.

There are plenty of anime with asian-looking characters, by the way. Of course they don't look like life because they're cartoons, but the subtle elements are there and they add up. I used to wonder about why the Japanese loved white people so much but I was just being thrown off by hair and eye colors.

>> No.1437469

I think it was a good way to at least bring attention to the show.

If they stuck with the manga's original art style it would have no chance of standing out amongst all of the other waifu war kawaii uguu going around basically every single season.
