she was more attractive than i had her painted before, which is something I try to retain in my paintings. Doesn't really matter to me if it looks exactly like the person but I have to be as attracted to the painting as I was to the model.

nice colour choices here brian, but your work seems to be having a correlation towards cartoons sometimes, just a feeling they give off, i think you really need to steer your ship the opposite way, look at your edges, some places you use a dark value line that just is not needed,

what better direction for fine arts to go in than that?

Light on her left thigh doesn’t make sense to me and the secondary lighting is almost the same direction from primary.

seemed like it was best for the composition, and the color is so nice that I'm not gonna paint over it cause it'd be impossible to mix exactly again. That color is honestly to me the most important part of this painting. If I get rid of it this whole painting will lose interest, and the focal point will be something less interesting.

Love this, one of those 'wow I wish I'd come up with that' compositions/feelings. Maybe darken her eyeballs a little (even if they're glowing, they look a little flat as is imo, and it's the first thing I was drawn to)

Strongly disagree, the lines aren't an obnoxious stylization at all and your dislike for them is a taste thing.
In fact, wait, are you the person from earlier who was being a dick to people based on totally objective things? They were tripfagging, though...but you sound like them. Unhelpful.

How do you get such long, smooth lines?

Obviously talent but also do you zoom out for longer lines or do really quick strokes or what?

I'd recommend taking pictures of real life and turning them into b&w and look at the value range happening.
Another thing you could do for a while is for every painting you make, have one main inspo painting in b&w from a really good artist and just look at the value range he has going on in his piece and more or less copy it over.
Also I suggest you start painting from life in b&w, takes longer than only analyzing a b&w photo but you learn a lot more with the addition of gaining mileage.
Over time you'll just know intuitively what values you need and where, keep at it anon.

I'm working on character design of a meat shield human servant of an awol alien scientist, defending his base of operation from locals. Did I manage to communicate it in the drawing? I like the contrast of the upper and lower halves but I'm not sure if it works together.

Awesome dude! Your angle is much better than what I came up with when I posted a couple of days ago. One more small crit:

The sword bag could use some drop shadow and ambient occlusion on the ground. It looks like it's floating a bit. Had to point this out since everything else is so perfect.

You have a blog or something? I really like this piece!

The linework is the best part, I'd recommend just turning this into flat colors with cel shading.

>> No.3355806 [View]

>>3355795
Work on getting cleaner lines. This is entirely chicken scratch.
After that, practice line weight and how that works. See how the lines communicate nothing about
the shape?
And also learn to have a focal point in mind. See how everything looks flat because you've treated it all the same? You need to have an attitude towards the different parts of the drawing.
And finally you should practice drapery and shading.

You know, i don't consider myself an artist. I just draw characters that i like and some others that i created, like this one in the pic. I wish i had studied music when i was young, somehow i ended up studying drawing. Anyways, any feedback on this drawing i made some weeks ago? I guess i could use more linework and anatomy knowledge.
