I've never really tried drawing from imagination. Do I have to get good at copying first?

>> No.3037179 [View]

>>3037152
You have to learn how the things you draw look. So yes, either get good at copying, or spend a lot of time observing and studying. You see humans everyday irl, in movies, in porn etc, so it's easier with them, but drawing animals from imagination is way harder, and really nobody can draw a decent cat on the first attempt without drawing them from nature/reference first, except maybe a felinologist.

Try drawing the body without the clothes first, and try to imagine what it actually looks like, what form does every part have. But you probably still find it very difficult, because you don't know the human body that well, so practice with a reference.

Also, learn trigger discipline, or /k/ will hunt you down.

This is going to sound really vague, but thats because I have to go to work soon. But remember this, Value can be used to imitate depth, so push your darks and your lights in the right areas and the image will immediately pop off the screen.

You have good sense of what the human form SHOULD be. But, you need to draw what is there rather than what you think should be there. The size of the eyes to the right is far too large, and your head shape is not the same as the pictures. There is good structure, but I would suggest learning how to draw from observation.

if your line of sight is parallel to the ground plane, your verticals will all be perfectly vertical. this will get you by in most cases - three point is if you're drawing something so tall that the vertical lines converge

your block is crooked because your third point is not directly vertical from your intersection

use fewer layers, process is good overall though
around :13 take a step back and compare your construction to your reference. this is the best place to make drastic changes. take a look at it and see how far off your angles/gesture are
keep at it!!

I've been drawing seriously for about 5 months. Is this good progress? I wasn't absolute garbage when I started, but I think I'm better now. Source image: http://img.20mn.fr/7fN2lCslQEamo3HhK3NJOQ/2048x1536-fit_acteur-donald-glover-droite-createur-serie-fx-atlanta.jpg

>I've been drawing seriously for about 5 months. Is this good progress?

Not really imo. You're still symbol drawing and your work is very sloppy. If you take some time to be more careful in your work, you will see improvement. Work on your measurements, check the angle relationships and be very precise. Then when you're shading, don't chicken scratch. Do it as cleanly as you can.

Last, pick a better reference picture to draw. Don't choose pictures that are small and blurry.

You have a basic understanding on how faces work, but I feel like you try to cheat things you can't really draw (the ear for exemple), don't do that.

the shading thing was actually pretty stupid, because I tried to make it stylized and realized it was stupid so I just went back over it and totally fucked it up. What parts of the fave are still symbol drawing? Another anon pointed out the ear but more specific critique would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If I wanted to make a comic and also have it be able to be read online how would I go about that? Like how comics and manga which are normally just physical copies are found on batoto, how do you get them online? Would you have to put it through a copier to upload the image online or something?

Your pattern distribution is too linear, try to vary how the shirt folds
The ear is wrong, even simplified it shouldn't look like that
There should be a mouth or at least a line under that moustache
Try to learn how a shirt looks around a neck and then simplify it, because here it just looks like a bunch on lines to me

Sorry if it sounds harsh but i really like your drawing however, very efficient

>What parts of the fave are still symbol drawing?
Pretty much everything but you're beginning to learn. Still needs work though. Look closely at the lips for example and notice the difference in shape between yours and the reference. You drew a symbolic shape of the lips.

Don't stylize or use cross-hatching just yet. First learn to shade softly and make something look realistic. Then simplifying your shading will make sense later on.
