sometimes though, I wonder just how necessary it is to copy the figure 1:1 when you're drawing from life. I feel like I get just as much, if not more, if I just make things up and use the model as an inspiration. If anything, instead of trying to pick up 100% of the visual information I get from the model, I get 50% instead, but I end up with a nice drawing and I reinforce the stylization choices I got from doing master copies. Lots of animation artists recommend this way of working, where you don't copy the model, but you just filter the model through your own design choices.

But on the other hand, what if I'm not learning anything if I work this way? I mean, if I'm not drawing what I see, am I really learning? I might as well be drawing from imagination, right?

It's confusing... also, sorry for dumping this all on you, i guess im just trying to figure stuff out through writing about it
