Yeah essentially of all le old masters, everything that lead to and was part of the realism movement, and continuing as a tradition amongst painters and portraitists that were more concerned with starting with exact proportions than circlejerking about their ability to hand draw on canvas. If you want to learn how to be a portraitist that would be appealing to people to sell commissions, grid technique and graphite transfer are fundamental tools of the trade. If someone wants you to make a painting of their loved one or a celebrity they like, they don't care about you flexing about (and often fucking up) your ability to hand draw the image, and when it comes to the added possible labor time, they'd probably rather pay for a grid transfer just because it'd be cheaper and more predictably proportionate.

You being able to cite some youtubers that are going out of their way to tryhard a painting for views isn't an argument. There are thousands of painters doing commissions using grids every day. The fact that you don't understand this is what makes you such a doofball knownothing memester. Eat poops ya goobus.

I've been getting more into staccato brush strokes and stacking different colors on top of each other. Ripping off the van gogh/post-impressionism memes.
