>Learn draftsmanship to create an imagined face from constituent forms.

Loomis is unironically a great resource for this, pic related

>Learn enough anatomy that your conversions of non-personalized faces are realistic

For the face, this took me about 15 hours to get a good grasp from all angles on face anatomy and how you can use it for expressions.

>Draw studies from life (AKA go to live figure drawing sessions, pause video, or ask friends, family, and strangers) until you're skilled at converting a face you see into a face you've drawn

This step is the longest one and will take you a few hundred hours to a lifetime to be consistently satisfied with the results, depending on how good you wanna get

>Learn, by performing master studies (and to a lesser extent watching a fuckton of different anime) how anime plays with the forms and underlying anatomical structures of the face to exaggerate and minimize certain elements that's stylized but appealing

An hour or two a week, repeat for 3 months and you'll get good crazy fast

>Draw your wife in a style similar to your master studies

It's not hard, it's just across a 150 hour moat from where you are now.
