Okay thanks. I'm halfway through keys to drawing (past the chapter about mapping). It's really great so far but I feel like the only things I'm really taking away from the entire book are just to draw from life. Is this all we really need to know to be on the right track for beginners? Just to draw from life a lot and learn about values, mood, and all dat shit that way?

Here is a study I did on basic forms. I absorbed the knowledge of he effect of the basic shapes from that point of view and that direction I light but is it necessary to do the same for every direction of light to develope a good sense of values?
