It’s interesting that even though Sakimi-chan uses the soft round brush (aka airbrush), the beginning stages of her paintings still involve blocking in large and distinct planes / visibly-defined-volumes, which is very similar to sculpting (which I don’t know shit about, but I’ve at least watched a lot of it, and the two do share some similarities from what I’m at least able to observe)

Especially if you squint at this image, or alternatively use Gaussian Blur on it, you can see the large blocks of value that she establishes first before doing the hardcore rendering part

I also pause people’s speedpaints about 5 or 10 minutes in and just copy their block-in only

The only way to paint a fine gradient turning and wrapping over a form, is to first establish harder planes on and around it first
