Decided to give it a shot. For starters it's because you couldn't properly understand the head; anime heads aren't 1 shape. They're TWO shapes; that face-mask you drew, and also a giant circle starting at the eye level. I'm talking about those "subtle curves" from the drawing, that's kind of a circle. And that's where the eyes go. Above the curve of the cheeks...


Oh right the placement. Anime artists arenot drawing all the lines for the nose, and the eye-sockets are placed accordingly to the nose... I'm not sure I can say it better. But pay attention to the image.
