I always kinda preferred the tinted version, it looks as though Ivan can see hell opening within the room to swallow him for his many crimes

This one has a mood of fear and regret, which I call feargret, or froghurt for short.

The froghurt is also cursed.

such a shame... I imagine their music had to be some next level stuff too, but there's practically nothing of that left. I can only hope that's not the fate of the European world.

Is this the most visceral and emotional painting of all time?

When you're looking at works from a consumate master Repin, I'd say it really does come down to personal taste. They're all top quality, so to rate them is less an issue of the best one and more an issue of which subject matter you like the most.

That said, Ivan the Terrible & his Son will always be #1 Repin for me.

>you will never paint something this masterful

Why even live? None of us will ever get this close.

Are some barriers really just impossible to break unless you have massive talent?

Pretty sure plenty of kids have laughed at amazing masterpaintings when they went to galleries on school trips etc.

>"why are they hugging each other? Are they gay?"
>"hahahaha"

Or just imagine how many kids must have made fun of David's small dick.

Children are very stupid. No matter what you paint, you will never have a kid stand there speechless and in awe of an amazing piece of art.

>In 1581 Ivan beat his pregnant daughter-in-law for wearing immodest clothing, and this may have caused a miscarriage. His second son, also named Ivan, upon learning of this, engaged in a heated argument with his father, resulting in Ivan striking his son in the head with his pointed staff, causing his son's death.
>This event is depicted in the famous painting by Ilya Repin, Ivan the Terrible and his son Ivan on Friday, 16 November 1581 better known as Ivan the Terrible killing his son.
