Art school can be worth it, my teachers are all experienced and paying them 150 an hour is worth it just to watch them work.

But yes it's not necessary, you know what is? Dedication. If you throw shit at a wall something is bound to stick, working on your own requires introspection, working in school takes care of that by giving you a teacher. But no amount of money can buy you skills.
