The reason why there's so much emphasis on learning the "boring" shit among artists is because stylized art, as is most art is built off of the fundamentals.
You can draw whatever you want, but don't expect to make appealing drawings without a knowledge of gesture and anatomy, especially with coom art.

In short, you need to know the rules to break them.

Learn fundies, copy, and draw from imagination. People like to separate the three and usually tell you to wait until you’re good enough to do one but there’s absolutely no reason to not do all three. As long as you’re thinking critically about your work, reality, and the work of others, you will progress.
