I like to create characters a lot myself, and honestly I’d say I don’t know. I guess try and keep the design tonally consistent; don’t just add on details that don’t fit.

I.e. if a character has diamonds on their arms or something, diamonds on their legs or a big diamond on their chest would be a better choice than, say, circles on their legs. Pretty blanket example, but I hope it’s clear enough
