I don't use SAI so I'm not going to give you advice on brush settings, but I do have advice for your colors.

Vary your color temperature more. You're basically just reducing the brightness of your base color for your shadows, which always makes it look muddy. Generally it's advisable to make your shadows trend towards less saturated usually bluer hues. If you've got a color wheel and color pick your base color and the shadow color and the selector doesn't move much along the wheel, you're probably not varying your temperature enough.

Here's how it looks with the shadows shifted a little more blue and the values darkened a little.
