Hey anon, I’m a student who is currently studying to be a professor in fine arts.

You don’t have to apply for an art school to major in art. Just apply at your local university/ community college and see if they offer an art program. They don’t require you to submit portfolios from what I known and you won’t be wasting soo much money/time on a shit art school.

your pic related is very /beg/ though. That’s ok, essentially you’ll have to start off with your /beg/ courses before you can even do advance courses. In advance courses you have to make a drawing a day, and you only got 3 hrs to do it, advance paintings even worse, you have to finish a while painting in just that 3 hrs. However in your /beg/ courses they’ll teach you about the basics of how to draw and how to use your shades, your values, your shapes, yes loomis is very real in those courses, all that stuff. And they’ll usually give you a week to finish your project.

In order to outperform your peers or just get better overall, I personally recommend to keep drawing more than what you’re being assigned because in order to make it as an “artist” out here you really gotta sell yourself and literally be 100% about being an artist. It’s constant work but hey that’s what you signed up for.

How much money do you got? Do you have a part time/ full time job? Because holy shit, art supplies aren’t cheep. Art majors spend the most money on supplies more than any other major in college. For some classes they recommend you to have a certain amount of tools on you for the next class because it’s for a grade. Yea, a fucking grade. The first semester I had to spend almost $200 on a drawing class and another $200 on a painting class. At the beginning of the semester mind you. I hope you live very close to a hobby lobby or Michaels because you’ll be visiting every other week for more supplies that can range from $20-$150 depending on what you need to do for the assignments.
