I don't get the 'social' part of social media
I'm just posting my drawings occasionally and I get ppl who DM me via pixiv or deviantart (I turned it off on twitter) who wants to casually chat
how do I tell them I don't want to without sounding rude?

I blame discord
Same reason it kills every other general on 4chan.
People flock there because of convivence and ego, cliques form, people get tired or forget how to deal with the shit posting ITT (shitposting is unanimous on all of 4chan. reminder) and voila, dead thread.
People like to use the excuse of one or two shitposters ruining the thread, but if everyone who frequents discord would continue to make BANTER in these threads, it would ultimately drown out the shitposting and it would return to what it used to be. At least more active, but still shitposty because that will never leave this site.
