Its true. Art is a lot like Fitness. Most of your gains are years 1-4 and then you fall into Intermediate purgatory as you continue to polish your skills. Without a professional coach at critical moments, its likely that you'll spin your wheels for a while.
Thats why I hopped on coursework after coming back from a huge hiatus- I knew I couldnt ferry the ford on my own without regimented training in areas that I lacked.
I mean, you CAN get better. But the road toward Mastery is lifelong for most people, and its harder to see growth without looking at the long-term.
Also, keep in mind that many people posting here are unironically beginners with only 1-5 years under their belt.
