I will not lie. When I saw the first key image I thought they hired him just for that, key imagery. I thought they would never actually try and hire a person who is infamous for how rigid, samey and lifeless his character designs are to do actual character designs.
And they did. And it looks as fucking bad as one would imagine.
You can't even say that it's CG's fault because literally 90% of all comments under that trailer in Japanese are either DIRECTLY shitting on his work as a designer or being happy for the fact that the old VA is back...while still shitting on his design and saying that it does not fit her at all.

I am so used to seeing an army of shills and retards jumping out with half-assed defense whenever anyone dares to criticize him. It is very reassuring to see general crowd of people actually understanding and accepting why he is hated so much in some smaller circles but it's also kind of shocking. Like, I would never expect from the internet to be as reasonably critical as it is towards this garbage trailer and Ilya's involvement with it.
