So he just traces images from the monitor to paper and applies atrocious effects?

As beginners, how did you guys keep yourself interested? I started two months ago and I've only been (slowly) grinding textbook fundies in that time, but the process is dry and tasteless, and lately I'm feeling like I have to force myself to get my daily practice in. Sometimes while I'm doing a study I get so bored in the middle of it that I just give up on the details and leave it unfinished.
I only want to treat drawing as a hobby, but I still do want to get good eventually. I'm just finding it so hard to enjoy myself these past few days, but it's way too soon to be thinking of giving up when I haven't even TRIED to draw the things I want to.

I'm nearing the end of chapter 3 of Keys and honestly I can't even tell if I'm learning anything. Rather, I feel like I'm only distilling every reference into a collection of lines and shapes that are solely meant to be copied.
Who cares about anatomy and perspective and the "why" when all I need is in the photo reference? Just copy the lines and values and try to match your drawing as close to the reference as possible. What fucking fundies bro don't think about it, just trust your eyes and copy the lines and colors it's so easy lmao.
Why does this feel so wrong?
