lots of ligaments and a stiff joint that connects the clavicle and scapula through the acromion process
the joint is there to allow the scapula to glide around the ribcage without being too stiff when you push your arms forward
in most cases, the scapula and clavicle can be treated as a single unit, and it's part of the reason why many artists use a shelf-like abstraction for the shoulders in neutral poses
as for what stabilizes it in the back, the traps and serratus are the biggest muscles that actually move it, while there are deeper, less artistically important muscles that stablize it against the spine, ribcage, and even the humerus (ie the arm itself)
