I'd say it's bad form to study each subject "one by one". The fundamentals work together to form a cohesive whole and it's better to strengthen all the parts together then to try to master one subject before moving on. Even then you'll never really master a subject, there will always be something to study or practice so it's better to work generally on everything so you can later get highly specific and specialize in the areas you want like say 5 point perspective. But that's just my take on it, you should try to do your own thing instead of just doing what everyone else says to do (loomis). That way you always know exactly what you're doing and why/how it fits into getting you to your own goals.
