Will getting an ipad or some other screen tablet help close the gap between my pencil drawings and my digital drawings?

When I do a drawing with pencil and paper then I usually feel pretty satisfied with the result, but when I try to do the same sort of drawing with my intuos then it almost always comes out looking really shitty. The drawings on the left took a few minutes at most. I only had to do a quick under sketch in orange and then go over it with black. The drawings on the right took much longer, had to be refined with several under sketches starting from a light gray and working up to a black, and most still look like trash.

I feel like I have no reliable control with the intuos and I'm always guessing at where the lines are going to end up. Are screen tablets usually a magic fix for closing that gap with people who are hopeless and never adapt to non-screen tablets?
