it really inst as bad pre-2010? you know pre muh ggate, pre sjw era. but you are right the comic industry is little more than a political soapbox for artist hired straight off of tumblr now :/

Anyway there are fantastic artist from the US comic industry, Esad ribic whose pic you posted is one of my favs , some others i like:

JH williams III
Marko djurdjevic for his covers
Frank cho
Jo chen
Sean gordon Murphy
and jim lee ofcourse but his style is sort of 90s in a bad way.
