I was working on a new method for fully breaking down an image in order to draw the vital information out of it. It refers specifically to paintings, not as much to drawings, carvings or works in ink. Do this to an image and then doing a study based on each of the specific categories could help draw out any information missed just doing an average copy.

the mnemonic device I was thinking of was the Acronym Chives, meaning Composition, Hue, Intention, Value, Edges, Shapes

Composition: easy, is the image composed? featuring what the focal point is, and any lines leading up to it. Matching study: thumbnail

Hue, what colors are used and how are they applied? what are their symbolic meaning? what is the intention of their use? matching study, color study

Intention, what was the goal in creating the image? what did it wish to convey? what is the core element, and does it still work when you remove it from secondary elements? matching study, ???

Value, What is the main value? how complex is the value structure? how does the value in the focal point compare to the rest of the image? matching study, 3 tone study

Edges, where and what edges are used? how are they used to full effect? what purpose do they serve to the greater image? matching study, probably 3 tone again?

Shapes, What major shapes are visible, and how do they effect the image? matching study, trace- over looking for large shapes

of course they aren't in order of the most important to study, but IVCESH isn't a word.

What are your thoughts on this? are there ways that I could improve? are there any potential steps or categories I am overlooking? Thank you for your input, and thank you for reading.
