They want to see the artists vision, creativity and capability for invention, not copies of another (superior) artists work. The original artist already did all the legwork so showing people a study shows them nothing about you or your skill. Compare this study with Volen's actual work and you'll see a very clear disparity in everything from technical proficiency to creativity. If someone hired him based off this study, thinking he could produce work like this on his own, they would be sorely disappointed. Studies are for learning, not showcasing skill. Esp. master studies.

Here's a quick edit to show you what I would change. I kinda butchered the pose but eh, he looked a little chunky to me in that pose. I mostly just tried to thin him out a little bit, hint at some anatomy and push the shapes more.
