Now look at this. The end result is okay but the means I took to get there are basically me doing a really really ugly block in, and then fumbling around with the smudge tool until it looked semi-correct.

I don't want to ever have to rely on the smudge tool for blending, but I was desperate. Not to mention it took forever, I'm not delusional enough to think I could repeat this """technique""" on any difficult subject matter.
