I'm gonna abandon the shading (my rendering is crap) and redo the lines with some fancy brushes in this style:

Even for a technical audience it still needs to generate some amount of visual interest.

What do you think about the photo bashing? Are the messy lines too much? I'd also appreciate any other critique.
