Yeah the contrapposto does that to the knee elevation. If you google contrapposto the first result is a wiki pic of a statue (man) and you can see the effect that dropping the hip does to the leg. Not sure if the effect is more pronounced with a woman and her different hip size/ placement. The painter may have elongated the leg for effect also to emphasize a more pleasing value composition. A good example of this type of value composition can be found in pic related.
