reflect what is adjacent to the face of the mirror "into" the mirror, and keep it in perspective as if the mirror were a window and the reflection continued and was cropped by the shape of the knife in whatever perspective it is in. this is only true because the vertical plane of the knife is perpendicular to the horizontal plane of the object it is resting on. the angle of the reflection would change if the vertical of the knife were at an angle with the horizontal surface.

When you're revising technical details, this isn't just semantics, it's important to not mix up subjective assessments with objective assessments. your rendering of the reflection is not "bad", it's inaccurate, which can be bad or good depending on the context.
