Well you should be able to get a decent drawing of the general proportions and features and stuff in a matter of minutes, then time after is spent expanding the tonal qualities of things.

In any case, that drawing still has a lot of the same faults. I think you need to control your contrasts more. This means not only value contrast, but also edge contrast.

Right now you are overstating many things, like the chin in that one has way too much brightness in the light, then the transition to shadow is really harsh. I think a lot of this is you not thinking of the form enough, and instead just following shapes, though maybe I am wrong in this guess. You also are overstating the bounce light. I would try to reduce contrast in areas that aren't that important. And as always think of structure and good drawing. I did a quick paintover, maybe it will help. Don't say "oh I didn't have enough time for that" because these things aren't just about "finish" but rather choices in how you handle things so they remain constant in a quick sketch or long drawing. Also I hope that the model there was a dude with long hair and not a woman, because that's how I handled this.
