After you know where you want the weighting, the rest of it is muscle memory and pen control. If you want to do it in one stroke with pressure set to brush size just do a lot of those line exercises until you're confident. You don't have to do it all in one stroke either, some people treat it the same as filing in a thin shape. I like using a non-hard brush personally with size/opacity and reinforcing areas. Might want to fiddle with your pressure sensitivity too if it's giving you too much feedback.
