It is not. If you make a pallet of colors from a picture it lets you sit and think about "why" the colors work together and gives you a bit of a grasp on what you can do to balance color temperature and intensities. I'll even throw a palette I made at you.
On top of all that, your style shows with how you use the colors, shade, and the rest of the picture.
