tried doing another small character painting thing. with this one it felt more like I was colouring in a drawing using fancy brushes rather than painting, which isn't really how I want to be working. kinda tricky. I might do one more painting and then go back to doing studies and shit

looks neat, I would try doing it without adhering so firmly to your linework. I usually do a rough sketch and the keep it at low opacity over top of what I'm painting as a guide. after doing some studies of other people's work, it seems like most of the time the lines you see on paintings like that are done in the final stages of the illustration.
