>Your images are a lot like how I would start a portrait.
ooh yeah. Most of the things posted are generally like 1/3rds-2/3rds "finished." The original idea was that I would do the last part on camera for a weirdo video series.
>If these are all on canvas then I'd urge you to go back to them and build up on the original paint as possibly they can be worked up into serious complete works.
idk if I'll ever make it to "serious" works but yeah a big part of the "no selling originals until the race is over" thing is that I have like 6 more years to keep working on them and apply things and techniques that I've learned since, that I didn't know about or think of then.
>You'll be worth a fortune.
literally tens of dollars!

>OP, take all your portraits, load them in photoshop, and open the curves editor. Look what that tells you. I just did your OP and almost every value is mid-range. You need to expand your value range, broseph.
you right. Been obsessed with mixing everything with white this year so that's probably a major part of it. All the dark tones are getting tinted, then I've tended to phone in mid tones and then just quickly add highlights.
>When people say your drawings lack form, I believe this is what they mean. The illusion of form is hardly created with just midtones.
I can see that. I think what I was working on yesterday with >>3704849 was a better attempt than most.

I don't care if you don't like it tbphwyf. There's a difference between "not liking something" and saying "you don't understand the fundamentals of art."
>You do one everyday?
Depends kind of? I normally start a bunch of canvasses at once and then work on a bunch of them together as the paint is available.

But like I took august off from new production. Only started like one new canvas and spent the rest of the month working on older shitty paintings from last summer

>pic related is a broken pot, but is arguably more beautiful than it was when it was fixed, the artistic process and embracing of imperfection gives it a greater sense of beauty.
Yeah I posted about Kintsugi here too >>3572002
>your works don't seem to do this at all
Sure they do, you're just an asshole. I've done 300 paintings of a 1000 painting series, and none of them are done until they all are. It's all about the process of creating and resolving problems towards something that at least finds "beauty" in the evolution and lack of resolution. The process is the story. You're looking at a freeze frame of an explosion and calling it ugly or whatever.

And if that's too "pretentious" to you or whatever you should shoot yourself in the fucking mouth for all I give a whoop.

idk what you tell you brah. sorry they're not alive enough?

tbphwyf I'm kind of only interested in actual practical critique. telling me "they still look dead" basically just means nothing to me. if you know how to make them look "less dead" feel phree to share.

>is your aesthetic harsh lines of alternating colors and visible brush strokes that give the illusion of crazy wrinkles and distorted human faces?
sounds about right. It's all a process of acrylic layering and substance abuse. Start with a base gesso layer, then do blues and purps layer then do reds and yellows and pinks then do highlights and shadows.

Or do something completely different who gives a shit. I do different pemdas on most of them.

>Huh? No, I posted that image not him.
sorry for being mean I was just talking shit because I thought you were the other one. Just keep grinding and try things and see what works and what doesn't.

But for the one you're emulating, it looks like they got the basic shape of the head and basic tones first then used the paint brush guy for highlights and flourishes?

i dont have recent experience doing digital but the same kind of approach that I used on >>3532137 to >>3532254 might be useful? Where you go in first with a bigger softer edge to get the basic under layer, then go in with a finer points on top?

>is that why you are spending your time tracing over and painting boring ass portraits?
well it's actually an evolving process. The first 150 were mostly all graphite transfers, now I'm on the grid stage and I'm like 10 paintings away from 300, where I start shifting to a looser and more abstracted freehand mini-phase followed by a projection phase where I start goobing with pointillism and parallel line portraits and stuff.

And I'm always open to suggestions for meme portraits whose asses wouldn't be boring by your standards.
