Please helpful criticism on the picture that was posted. Saying "read the sticky" or "learn fundamentals" or "read X book" is not helpful. You are just avoiding the question and instead spitting vague, generalized and non-specific advice that you, or literally anyone else really, could give to 90% of /ic/.

Pic related but yeah like the other anon says, study the human figure realistically and study anime art you like like if you were studying from life.

I'm an absolute beginner, and have been reading Fun with a Pencil for the last 8 days since a lot of things I read while looking for good books and tutorials seemed to point to Loomis, and that book in particular. The practice it's given me has helped me get into the swing of things, but it feels kind of like it drags to me. I've been drawing basically all of the exercises up until now (got to the part on expressions, so I'm still pretty early into the book), but it's getting hard to keep drawing everything. I think it's mostly because I'm not too into what I'm drawing. He really lingers on cartoon heads for longer than I'd like. I'm interested in the bodies, perspective, and light and shadow sections though.

I'm wondering of people here think it's a bad idea to just read everything and do a few exercises instead of all of them as I make my way to the parts I'm more interested in, or if it sounds fine. Heck, I'm tempted to start looking for other ways to learn, though I'm afraid to slow down while looking around again because I want to keep going, I've been drawing for at least an hour every day, sometimes several hours. When I was studying Japanese I didn't read children's stories or anything because they were pretty boring, I just read what I wanted. I didn't even read Genki II, I just read an online guide after Genki I because that book started to become too slow for me, and 6 years later, I can say that that worked out fine for me. Though learning a language and how to draw may not be entirely similar except the basic "Study the fundamentals and practice your ass off." I'm kind of wondering if I should just read up on the fundamentals, started drawing whatever, and read up on things as needed. I'm pretty eager to get into learning to draw bodies, perspective, shadows, details, shading, gestures, and anatomy. I'm pretty interested in anatomy since it seems pretty vital to make good-looking humans.
