In fact, you never really stop making garbage, you just make proportionally less of it. I've drawn certain characters multiple times over the years, and sometimes redraws are simply worse than older takes for any number of reasons.
You have to constantly try very hard to make good work and sometimes the drive isn't there or you just get lost in the sauce, or whatever. It's no big deal if it's a one-off thing, it's the grand scheme that counts. So I somewhat sympathize with the artist in the OP.
