I'm following Proko and Hampton for figure drawing, is this a good approach?

As of now I'm just doing the assigned 100 gesture drawings, seeing proko doing it helped me a lot.

Yeah, something like:

Read/watch this tutorial.
Make 20 of this.
Daily.

I think would be trully beneficial and every beginner would get at least a good trainning of a skill daily, insted of just drawing one or two reference.
