I struggled with gesture for a really long time, but one day I decided to do a study of this, and just tried to draw the body in each of these frames and suddenly everything clicked. Grinding 30 second gestures and reading through Force didn't help me, but studying this did.
It really helped me realize how useful it can be to study other artists when you want to obtain their skills rather than just doing everything from photos and try to reinvent the wheel yourself every time.

It's not body language, it's gesture. Animators have good gesture because their job is all about action and movement. A good exercise is to draw the full figure in a set time, 30 sec, 1 min, 3 min. things like that. only draw what's essential to communicate weight and form. you can even do this exercise when your drawing from anime artists. Getting good at gesture will help you so much at drawing like an animator
