Now to be perfectly clear I'm not using her work as a platform to say that I can paint, but I read one of the comments in this thread asking for advice on how to mix colors.

She taught me this.

You want to paint still lifes until your brain bleeds and you want to be as familiar with the colors until you can't grasp why the fuck you're doing it anymore.

It's very natural, but you also want some good paint (professional grade preferred -- Grumbacher does the trick) and good brushes which vary from synthetic, but you want to get red or black sable (which have INSANE amounts of quality to them)

If you're looking for a smooth sub-straight use fucking panel for christssake and then paint the colors for more than one sitting. Use liquin for best results and never mix with a palatte knife because you'll end up wasting paint just clean the fucking brush in between mixing and shoot for colors that match what you're painting.
