I take Kim's advice to heart and I'm very happy with my progress after drawing for less than 2 years. It's a great feeling to be able to manipulate scenes in my head and spontaneously doodle what is in my mind with greater complexity and ease over time. You don't start and stop at boxes, you need to keep pushing yourself with harder and harder exercises and forms to improve your visualization.
Form is an absolutely indispensable foundation and it will make things much easier, trust me.
