Pls no bully. Most animators outside of Aaron Blaise or Richard Williams aren't great illustrators (pic related, calarts character animation faculty illustration) anyway. Tom Bancroft is an animation legend but his illustrations aren't mind blowing by any means either (they're still pretty good, mind you). The guy's still a good teacher and probably has the most straightforward material on the subject out there.

>richard williams quote is from like the 60s

Nah it's from the 80s or 90s and it's still relevant in either case. Most art schools are hot garbage and that's why the same handful of <10 schools typically get recommended. Literally 9 times out of 10 or even more if you just go to your nearest art school you're going to have a bad time if drawing representational art is your goal. Just use maps.google.com and try looking at the work coming out of random art schools for yourself.

>their decision to blindly eat noah bradley's tablescraps

I don't care about Noah but you're right, it's much better to blindly eat [no-name art teacher at a $50,000 a year art school's tablescraps isn't it?

>skill is not necessarily success

Success is a relative term I feel. If I drew like this art school graduate and Calarts instructor/studio bigwig I wouldn't consider myself a success no matter how prestigious my position was, because my success would be almost entirely owed to other factors than my art like my charisma or whatever. I wouldn't have been successful because of the contents of my art school's curriculum, but because I was able to impress the right people with my personality.

There are many such "personable" people working at coffee shops and chain art supply stores across the country who didn't have that good fortune of graduating alongside those kinds of people they could come to influence. I'd rather get good and supplement my work with my personality rather than have a great personality and supplement it with better than 30% of /ic/-tier work, otherwise I would have gone to business school or something like that, you know?

good thing he has the watermark there or I'd probably use this as splash art for my indie game.
