this is the same everywhere you go. half the art classes you ever go to will just manufacture teachers. then the cycle will begin anew. the societies aren't better, the teachers are about the same. in fact, it may be better to learn where you are, since the main point of art school is building connections

there's probably cool shit where you live too. if you can't make the most of things where you are, then you probably won't bother to when you get somewhere else. a place will never change you for the better if those habits aren't already in you.

but you're contemplating devoting 3yrs of your life to one?

you need to go right back to the college and grill them about what each course contains in terms of subject, content, modules. partially because these things REALLY vary according to the school and the course and partially because you may find one has more pros than the other in your eyes

if possible, talk to the other students on those courses. ask them what they like about it, what they don't like, what is a typical day for them, what is something they didn't realise the course would entail.

don't assume everything will be fine just because it looked good on the website

you will still be self taught if you go to art school. what art school does really well is that it gives you an environment and peers geared for learning. it doesn't go out of it's way to specifically teach you(well, most don't).

right then, i'll attempt it. Though I google searched the series out of interest, and it's possible there might be pdfs of some of it already buried online somewhere. Also that it's an out of print 'rare collectable' but I don't think that'd fly with my shabby ex-library set. I'll start scanning one and see how it goes.
