Given that: more details = less self-identification, there's no harm in making backgrounds and objects very specific and detailed, given that we're not gonna identify ourselves with them. They're for our use.
Having a simplified human in an specific world helps feel the world feel real and tangible. The interaction between characters and objects becomes believable.

That's the reason why manga backgrounds are usually very detailed and realistic.
