Anyone have reference of the head like pic related but in more unusual/uncommon angles?

Understand basic forms. Then learn how to deconstruct more complex subjects and break them down to the simplest visual explanations possible. Your drawing >>3414246 shows at least some consideration for what an eye might actually look like if it were "real" but you don't demonstrate any real understanding of the interlocking of rounded forms like what's in your OP.

you're jumping into rendering without having a decent drawing or understanding of the underlying structure

if you wanna jump into doing faces through rendering then study the asaro head or something (pic related)

Use Reily, Loomis, Hogarth or whatever method of head construction most appeals to your senses.

Apply the method to the these Asaro heads.

Take your time, do not rush these. Finish with clean facets and matching values.

You don't understand the planes of the face well. Pic related, it's a really handy look at how the planes of the face are arranged and gives you an idea of where light and shadow will fall. As you can see, the side planes are more in shadow when the front planes are in light, but you've only put the very edge of the side plane in shadow. Likewise, the plane of the side of the nose flares out more and tends to leave a softer shadow.

The chin looks like it's too far forward and no quite aligned with the center of the face. The mouth might also be too far over/low down. You could probably raise the bottom of the nose a bit and bring the mouth up a little higher. Or, at least see if it looks better.

Necks do not work that way. They are not flat cylinders.

The hair is really quite bad. You're attempting to shade the hair, but without establishing a solid light source, and the forms end up not being well defined.

Good luck and carry on, Anon.

You are trying and that's where the improvement comes anon. To fix your stiff poses I recommend you watch vilppu, after a few videos you'll be drawing less stiff figures

>How do I fix the face?
Your face is full of symbol drawing and you need to read loomis, practice a bit with the asaro head and watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T7cDY7YDsg

The head is an important part of every figure drawing and it can make or break it so learning how to make it look good is important. Once you learn the basics of how to do it and proportion you can add animu on top of it if you want

Loomis, and study the planes of the face. It seems like a lot to memorize at first, but it's really not much., it's like four big 3d forms for the overall face, and then some unique specifics for eyes, nose, and lips person-to-person.

Helpful proportion guidelines:

- The head is barely short of 5 eye-widths wide
- The halfway point of the face will run just under the center of the eyeball.
- The bottom of the nose is halfway down from that eye-line.
- The split of the lips and the indent below the lips are 1/3 and 2/3 of the way down from that nose-line, respectively.
- The corners of the lips tend to line up with the center of the eyeballs.
- The corners of the nose tend to line up with the inner corner of the eyes.

These are all variable, but not by a ton; the last two the most so. Mostly, though, focus on those big 3d forms that make up the face (planes of the face).

You are symbol drawing anon. I'd say go draw some cubes and spheres, you know, simple shapes, then go to full body anatomy, and then worry about heads. There isn't much of a secret to drawing a portrait, I mean, you kinda got the features in the right place, but I am sure you would struggle if you were to tilt this head to any other position. You need to learn how to think of these features as 3D objects first.

a flat 2d surface... but can also be a flat part of a 3d surface (pic related, it's a bust that is meant to help highlight the "planes" of the human head). it's a way to think about how something looks with a clearer and un muddled view of how the different parts of it separate. a normal human head (a real one) is usually to fleshy and smooth to easily see this, so people think about the planes in order to think about it in a more abstract way and better understand how to shade and draw it.

Don't try to 100% render based on the photo (what you are doing right now). Instead focus on the planes of the face, direction of light, and large shapes. For some people working in grayscale is usually a good place to start because it helps to see the direction of light and shadow planes easier. pic related.

The thing people (should) do is reference poses, not copy them. When starting a figure you should put down whats in your mind first, and THEN find a reference to better understand things like how a limb is foreshortened, or where the center of gravity is. Its okay for you to start with drawing the head, but you shouldn't do it from anime. Anime is a highly stylized language of symbols that arise from people understanding a complex subject and presenting it in a noncomplex way. Trying to learn how to draw a head from cartoons/anime is like trying to learn chemistry by reading the glossary. You should 1) learn the major planes 2) learn the proportions 3) look over the anatomy (imo not AS important in the head as the rest of the body) and 4) google heads and ask yourself questions; how do the folds of the eyes overlap each other? What happens to the rest of the face when someone smiles or frowns? How does the far facing corner of the mouth look like at different angles? etc etc. And most of all above all this, gain an early fundamental understanding of perspective. Perspective is in absolutely everything we draw and I personally wish I knew that earlier.
You start smart, concise, structured and with life and with the teaching of professionals. Work for that rigid base foundation of understanding and you'll rise above your peers.

You mean an asaro head? There are plenty of pictures of those sculptures around, not sure which one exactly you mean. Just google the term and you'll find plenty.
