What's the latest age you can go to school? That is likely the age you want to go.

Some art schools will NOT accept applicants older than 24 (I think Gobelins) and that's OK! That gives you time to either fall on your sword and fail on your own or get good enough to earn a scholarship if you want to go later using inexpensive material online like AMB and the Bitey.com fx course

What is the cost of the school? Things are different in Europe, if you're spending around 10,000 EUR a year I'd say that's acceptable-any more than that though and it's getting risky.

All that said, France is pretty cool and the French hybrid animation style is world renowned at this point.

Nothing's impossible, but with animation as a goal you have an extremely up-hill battle ahead of you, and that's even if you had the best equipment at your disposal. Animation is all line-drawing and that thing sucks mad balls at that in particular. You would be much better off drawing in traditional media and investing in something better over time, but if you live in Eastern Europe or the Philippines or something I guess that's just how it is.

>Does anyone else here want to learn art just to impress normies?

Absolutely not. I want to get good at something so I can feel alive-and I don't mean that in some kind self-loathing, depressed or disdainful way.

No worries man. I just don't want my fampaisanos to make the same mistakes I did. As long as you're not using a REALLY shitty tablet you should be fine, anyway.

I love this. Your cat princess from a couple of threads back was good too. Awesome colors and rendering with no real stand out drawing flaws in dire need of correction.

JUST DO IT

Who's the artist? If he doesn't reciprocate then you go around and publicly shame him. Call him out on every post he makes on his tumblr, deviantart, twitch stream or whatever until he concedes and either refunds your money or finishes the job.

Your picture makes a good point, but I assure you that 90%+ of the people in the bulbous hobbyist population either feel locked out of the working artists' population because degrees are erroneously considered as a prerequisite for any kind of employment, or they are locked out because they're just terrible. When it comes to school it's not a matter of being too lazy (at least not for those that didn't drop out), it's a matter of financial responsibility or possibility. How many hobbyist artists are genuinely working towards a goal as a working artist or are simply telling themselves they are but really aren't doing anything of the sort from a practical standpoint?

>you won't get a job from a paper, your skills are the only thing worth. school is good because social interaction is necessary for development and it provides you with a good environment.

"you won't get a job from a paper" is the prevailing theme of the graphic. A good school is perhaps the best possible environment for improvement; no one's really arguing against that.

>your schools are all companies.

Yes; this graphic was created with Americans in mind more so than Asians and Europeans. If you can get away with spending >$7,000 or so annually on a good school it's perhaps worth it. Many people aren't self-motivating enough or well informed enough to improve on their own, that's true, but if they aren't there's no guarantee that they will find success with instruction, either.

>muh x/y/z
>said this
>you might not want to listen to the highest tier of artists
>unless you yourself is part of it

This is inferring that most (or even many) working artists are anywhere near any of those guys in skill. Rob Liefeld is another example of a working artist who attended no school and he continues to work.

Statistics and anecdotes like that show that a degree is mostly a contrivance and that hobbyists shouldn't feel locked out if they're unable to attend.

>fun

Drawing big fat retarded animals all day might end up being pretty awesome in spite of myself but really it's a practical means to an end, for me. I want to be a real nigga and in the end there's nothing to it but to do it, fam!

Working in retail, low paid warehouse and nightclub jobs since forever, I don't have the money for a formal art education of any sort-I just have to convince myself that I can somehow mimic the success of other notable self-made artists somehow. Being interested in animation above all else the really formal art and illustration stuff is kind of taxing but I know it will be worth it in the end. I need a huge mental library and there's only one way to cultivate that I'm aware of.
