Obviously? Using references is something /beg/s do because they can't visualize things in their head well yet. Once you reach a certain level you can just see when things look right.

For example, I just drew this the other day without using a single reference. Its just a quick sketch I did while drunk so don't "hurr fundamentals" it. I just wanted to try something a bit different with style, but it goes to show you that even without refs you should still be able to picture things fine.
