You don't explictly need to write down things to study, but just make sure you know what you need to study for how to improve, there's always something you can be doing

By doing it like maths I mean
>think critically/intensely about what you're trying to learn

For example
If you're trying to learn how to draw a particular muscle, you can't just blindly copy the reference, you have to look at it from all different angles, think about how it looks in 3d space, draw it from angles without reference, etc to make sure you've understood it.

You could copy this picture perfectly pixel for pixel and it would look amazing but you wouldn't be able then draw it from imagination/from a different angle/in a different pose because you weren't thinking about it like a puzzle to be solved

You have to enter the study with a question
>why do the colours look good
>why do the proportions look good
>how do the muscles turn and twist
>etc
seek to answer that question
