How much do you guys read from actual books and how much do you just study from observation and reference?

From what I've gathered it's recommended you just read books and do the exercises in them while also doing reference/observational study, but I just can't bring myself to reading the books. I just can't focus on them.

im a /beg/ tier artist and even i understand that you must understand the rules of reality before breaking them.

think of drawing anime or stylized stuff in general as playing chess or a fighting game. the guy that keeps beating you in various ways does so because he knows the game like the back of his hand. kinda like knowing cheap glitches, spawn locations, and the meta in a firs person shooter

whoa whoa hold on he does have a point. theres a bajillion artbooks dedicated to human anatomy, no good ones (if any) of animals. fundies alone isn't gonna help if theres no catchall guide to animal figure. There should be a Loomis for dogs or something
